Helen M. Lichtenberger

Helen M. Lichtenberger, 86, of Evansville passed away at 10:30 am, Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at VNS Plus Hospice on East Walnut Street.

Helen was born February 12, 1926 in Evansville to the Reverend Edward F. and Lola (Wright) Austrew. She was a graduate of the old Central High School in 1943 and attended the Denver Business School. During her working career she was a budget department statistician at Servel, worked with IBM at International Harvester, and worked in the purchasing department at Republic Aviation during WWII.

She married her husband, Harley, on August 3, 1945 and together they travelled extensively for sixty-five years in the United States, Canada, and abroad. She and Harley camped and hiked most of the western national parks and Canadian Rockies.

In her early years, Helen was active and held offices in the Evansville Hiking Club and Fine Arts Camera Club. She was also active with her husband in the Photographic Society of America. Helen was a life member of the University of Evansville Presidents Club as well as being a member of the Evansville Kennel Club. She and Harley were proud season ticket holders to the University of Evansville basketball games for sixty-five years. They attended the Methodist Temple in Evansville and Helen was an avid reader.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Harley Lichtenberger of Evansville; her daughter, Holly Kincaid and her husband Scott; one granddaughter, Katie Kincaid, all of Fishers, Indiana.

Also surviving is her brother, Donald E. Austrew and his wife, Naomi, of Manistique, Michigan and two sisters-in-law, Roberta J. Doninger and Charlene E. Dimmitt both of Evansville.

Friends may call from 3 pm until 7 pm, Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville. Per her request, burial will be Private.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or Evansville Rescue Mission. Condolences may be made to the family online at boonefuneralhome.net
